On the Women's International Day, shy faces full of hope welcomed us with open arms. Women that carry indisputable stories, they are part of the Ndlavela Special Women's facility.
The Judite Justino Foundation did not let the date go unnoticed and provided a memorable interactive experience, highlighting a health fair, religious, physical and cultural activities.
The initiative, with a special focus on preventing breast cancer and other illnesses, was widely cheered and praised by the facilities management, professionals involved and the inmates.
Currently, the establishment hosts more than 140 women, whose sentences vary between 2 and 28 years. Among them, there are mothers with young children, pregnant women and sick women, many of whom have never received visits from family members, living in a situation of abandonment.
During the event, an atmosphere of commotion and hope was in the air, with inmates expressing a deep desire to receive words of friendship and comfort.
A special day for those who are special, it was in collaboration with the Provincial Health Service, the Lin Group, AMODEFA and a dental clinic, the Health Fair offered a series of important services. The activity included breast cancer screening, blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, oral health consultations and visual acuity tests.
The results were significant: 3 potential cases of breast cancer were detected, 25 pairs of glasses were provided, 17 cases of hypertension were identified and 46 teeth were considered for extraction.
Because the focus is also to support, our foundation allocated hygiene kits containing soap, bath soap, toothpaste, sanitary towels and toilet paper, as well as capulanas. For newborns, complete layettes were offered, including bathtubs, diapers, creams, sheets, blankets, wet wipes and clothing kits.
A unique moment, with the right to demonstrate faith, provided by a brief but significant religious service, offering the inmates a breath of fresh air, based on the word of God.
To close the day, we had a cultural performance, with a musical performance by Dudas Aled, who enchanted us with his guitar and participated in a duet with an inmate with an impressive voice, livening up the atmosphere with music and dance.
At the end of the day, upon leaving the facility, the heavy gate closed behind us, while tears of hope and a hopeful smile remained on the inmates' faces symbolizing the expectation of a better tomorrow.
